A Petition from The People of Nevada
WHEREAS, Gov. Steve Sisolak has seized the role of the Nevada Legislature by creating law with his Directives and claiming the right to do so under the authority of “emergency” powers; and
WHEREAS, the governor has abused those lawmaking powers for nearly a year even though the Legislature has met twice in Special Session; and
WHEREAS, Gov. Sisolak claimed his initial shutdown Directives were intended to “flatten the curve,” however, his measures have had no effect on slowing the virus but have destroyed jobs, businesses and the state’s economy; and
WHEREAS, Gov. Sisolak’s shutdown decisions have been both contradictory and discriminatory, as well as infringements on constitutional rights such as free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, due process and equal protection; and
WHEREAS, the Great Barrington Declaration issued by infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists and co-signed by more than 52,000 medical professionals states that “Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health” and “Keeping these measures in place…will cause irreparable damage;” and
WHEREAS, the wisdom of the Great Barrington Declaration is being borne out with exploding crime rates, more mental health issues, fewer cancer screenings and worsening outcomes from other medical conditions across the nation.
NOW THEREFORE, we, the undersigned, call on Nevada legislators to…
1.) Uphold their solemn pledge to “support, protect and defend” the U.S. Constitution by immediately repealing “emergency” orders that restrict local businesses and limit the size of peaceful gatherings.
2.) Demand that Gov. Sisolak provide scientific evidence that his “emergency orders” have a direct and significant impact on reducing the spread of COVID-19 in the community that justify such directives.
3.) Declare that all of Nevada’s independently-owned businesses are essential and direct OSHA inspectors to discontinue their abusive inspections and fines on them.
6.) Adopt amendments to Nevada Revised Statutes that would limit any governor’s authority to restrict our freedoms under the auspices of a declared emergency.
This petition has now been closed. The final version with signatures of the “Unlock Nevada” petition will delivered to Nevada legislators on February 1, 2021.
